Built-in protection with secure I/O and trusted edge intelligence.

It’s locked, it’s trusted, it’s Edge-ready — meet Opto 22’s groov RIO: the secure Remote I/O built for protected data, intelligent control, and zero-compromise performance.
OVERVIEW

The Future of Remote I/O with Built-In Cyber Protection

Protect your data at the Edge

Zero Trust from the Start

groov RIO has no default logins—access begins only after you create a secure admin account. This removes the risk of factory credentials being exploited. You control all access from the first connection, with no recovery backdoors. It’s security by design, not by patch.

Assign access based on need. groov RIO lets you create multiple user accounts, each with permissions tailored to specific tools like Node-RED or groov Manage. Session timeouts can be enforced per user or globally. Enterprise IT teams can also connect groov RIO to LDAP directories for centralized control.

All connections to and from groov RIO are encrypted using HTTPS and SSL/TLS. Whether it’s a browser session, MQTT data flow, or Node-RED integration, your data is protected in transit. Encryption is on by default. That means security isn’t optional—it’s built in.

Unlike traditional devices that depend entirely on perimeter firewalls, groov RIO includes its own configurable device firewall. Define which services and ports are accessible per interface. Use it to create secure network zones and block all unwanted traffic. It’s ideal for both standalone setups and tightly segmented networks.

groov RIO supports OpenVPN, giving you encrypted, authenticated remote access—without opening inbound ports. Once connected, administrators can monitor, troubleshoot, and manage the device as if they were on site. It’s secure access, without compromise.

MQTT uses a publish/subscribe model that enhances security by initiating connections from the device side only. With groov RIO, all connections to the broker are outbound, meaning no need to open inbound firewall ports. Once connected, data flows securely in both directions.
